Charlie P decided to do something a little bit different and cycle to see her favourite band: 145 miles away!
Music is my life
Going to live music was a big part of me growing up and I go to a lot of gigs now. I just cannot imagine anybody being in anyway excluded from the experience that connects you to artists in such a special way. The work AiE does to improve this really inspired me.
A music related challenge
I wanted to do something related to my love of music, and something with enough of an incentive to get me through a challenge. My favourite band, Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls, announced a UK tour so I looked at the distance between my house and the first date and that looked enough of a challenge whilst still achievable – 145 miles.
Starting from scratch
I hadn’t been on a bike for about 10 years, so this was quite some challenge! I trained for 8 weeks, going to the gym 3-4 times a week with two big rides at the weekend.
I never felt like I was on my own
Even though I did most of the actual cycle by myself, I never felt like I was on my own doing it. I had encouragement from people I’d never met and some who live the other side of The Atlantic. It was amazing how a cause could unite people like that.
