Access Starts Online off to a flying start

Access Starts Online, the campaign calling for comprehensive online access information, is off to a flying start.
Launched in partnership with the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF), 9 of AIF’s members are now providing disabled fans with a designated access information page on their event website based on guidance from the initiative.
In total, AIF members ArcTanGent, Bestival, Camp Bestival, Common People, Cornbury, Deershed, Just So, Kendal Calling and Nozstock have all signed up to Access Starts Online less than three months after its launch.
A lack of comprehensive online access information is widely recognised as a source of huge frustration to disabled music lovers, and will be the focus of Attitude is Everything’s forthcoming State of Access Report, to be published next month.
We believe that providing this information is a simple and cost-effective measure that all live music events and venues can take.
The campaign simply requires promoters and venue owners to download an access info guide and template before making any recommended amendments on their website.
Small venues will soon be encouraged to join the campaign as part of Attitude is Everything’s partnership with Independent Venue Week. Those who do will receive the Access Starts Online “stamp of approval”.
Suzanne Bull MBE, Attitude is Everything CEO said:
“We are heartened to have received such a strong show of support from AIF members. These days everyone hears about gigs and festivals online, and that’s why this campaign is so important - as without comprehensive access information in advance of an event, many disabled music fans can be put off from buying tickets in the first place.
“It’s also important that more festivals and venues are aware of the sheer number of disa-bled fans who want to attend their events - according to Government figures, over 3.5m of us enjoyed a live music event last year - and we hope that Access Starts Online marks an easy and straightforward step towards engaging with these music-loving masses!”
Rob da Bank, co-founder of AIF, Bestival, Camp Bestival and Common People said:
“Working in partnership with Attitude is Everything and their simple-to-use Access Starts Online template, we’ve been able to successfully improve the access information on our websites for Bestival, Camp Bestival and Common People. Doing this will allow our disa-bled customers to get all the info they need before they come on-site!”
