Bands...
Heavy Load
Heavy Load break all the rules because they don't know what the rules are. They have unwittingly rediscovered the true meaning of what punk is - punk is not about haircuts - badges - nose rings or snarls - punk is saying how you feel - ignoring the trendies and speaking the truth.
Heavy Load are a punk band - some of the band have learning disabilities some don't. They manage to survive through their raucous energy, attitude and sheer volume. They have started to break out into the mainstream with some triumphant and chaotic sets at Wychwood and Brighton Festival. This year a movie about their unique world is released - the world premiere was at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
"I love what you do," - Kylie Minogue
"A triumph of disfunctionalness" - Wreckless Eric
Spaceships Are Cool
www.myspace.com/spaceshipsarecool2
Spaceships are cool are sci-fi science pop using theremins, stylophones, casio synths and glockenspiels to make music that sounds like your Super Nintendo made an LP! Highly recommended for fans of The Beta Band & The Flaming Lips.
Their debut EP is currently in the US college radio charts & the band have been featured on BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music.
Al Cool and the Stranger Wines
www.myspace.com/alcoolandthestrangerwines
Al Cool and the Stanger Wines are a 6 person band. They like all kinds of music. This means sometimes they sound a bit strange. They seem to be making something they all agree on now. In their words: “We smoke on the mic like 'Smokin Joe' Frazier, the hell raiser, raisin' hell with the flavour. Just cos you got the bacon, the lettuce, the tomato... Don't mean we're gonna give you our toast! Watch out for 'Celine'.”
"It's sort of Latino-indie-pop meets afro-beat with verve, swagger and bite. And reminds us mainly of Manu Chao. Which is a VERY good thing." – Odd Wednesdays
DJ Chinaman (Deaf Rave)
Deaf Rave is about bringing love and peace with music and visuals for the Deaf community worldwide. Socially we want to party and have fun. It’s all about bringing your passionate self being. Deaf Culture is everywhere and still growing!
Jamie Renton (Chilli Fried)
Chilli Fried is a global beat club session featuring the cutting edge of live music alongside resident DJ and host Jamie Renton. Chilli Fried nights feature the cream of dance sounds from around the world.
“You get a lot of great music for your mulah.” - Time Out
Attitude is Everything – the story so far…
Attitude is Everything improve Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music by working in partnership with audiences, artists and the music industry to implement a Charter of Best practice in music venues, clubs and festivals across the U.K.
Our regular Club Attitude nights showcase the talents of Deaf and disabled musicians and DJ’s proactively programmed in a mainstream environment. We promote Best Practice by demonstrating to the industry how to put on a fully accessible club night. This includes creatively experimenting with access facilities such as live sign language interpretation of lyrics and audio description for visually impaired people.
Previous headliners include Mystery Jets, The Xcerts, Foals, thecocknbullkid, The Mules and Art Brut and we have had DJ sets from Alan McGee, Alexa Chung, DJ Void and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.
Since 2005, Attitude is Everything have been recruiting Deaf and disabled volunteers to be part of the Glastonbury stewarding team. We also run an information tent and recruit Deaf and disabled stewards for Festival Republic events including Latitude, Reading and Leeds Festivals and work with Channelfly to improve the access at The Great Escape.
Our patrons include Robert Wyatt, Alan McGee, Blaine Harrison, Amadou and Mariam, Mat Fraser and Susan Hedges.
