Attitude is Everything are delighted that Drugstore are our special guests for our Club Attitude Showcase as they launched the pilot project of Attitude is Everything, way back in September 2000 at Dingwalls.  For 10 years they have remained firm supporters and advocates for what we do.

 

Drugstore was born in 1993 when Brazilian born Isabel Monteiro and American drummer Mike Chylinski, two drifters in a succession of bands, met via a flatshare. Just before the release of their highly acclaimed 1^st single “ALIVE”, Daron Robinson joined as their guitarist.  They soon signed a major deal with GoDiscs and released their first album “Drugstore” to rave reviews. 

 

Following the sale of GoDiscs to Polygram, in 1998 the band released their second album “White Magic for Lovers” on RoadRunner Records.  The album featured “El President”, the duet with Thom Yorke, which propelled the band into the charts.  In 2002, the band released their third album “Songs for the Jetset” on yet another label, Global Warming. The album was well-received by the press, and widely acknowledged as their best.

 

Following a mysterious 7 year gap, the band returned in 2009 with a sell-out gig at London Dingwalls.  In January 2010, Isabel Monteiro announced a new-line up and the mystery of the dramatic band disappearance was explained in Monteiro’s intimate and compelling blog - Anatomy.

Bug Prentice is a three-piece band straddling Oxford and London like some crazy bow-legged godzilla. Their influences range from Deerhoof to John Coltrane, via Woody Allen and Futurama.

 

 

You may recognise the many (well, three) faces of Bug Prentice: Stephen Gilchrist can be seen drumming in Jennifer Gentle and Queen Adreena, while Ruth Goller plays bass in Acoustic Ladyland and The Final Terror. Guitarist Ally Craig has also been known to play solo sets in and around Oxford.

Hailing from the four corners of the city and drawing their influences from the four corners of the globe, this bunch of vertically challenged misfits came together with one aim in mind: to spread the word. Viva!

 

 

All that matters is the glorious, infectious energy these boys are injecting into the capital, like a delicious shot of skank-flavoured adrenaline straight to the heart.

In 1996, DJ Void first experienced Drum & Bass whilst at University in Hull through the New Horizons events.  After getting his own decks, things progressed swiftly and led to a series of international events from Belgium to the USA, and appearances at Pure Science, “Best of British” at Bagley’s, HQ, Raindance, Cargo, Electrowerkz and The Big Chill Bar.  Radio experience includes featuring for a year on London's leading Drum & Bass station, Rude FM 88.2, being featured in the mix of BBC 1Xtra's Breaking New Talent slot, being Artist of the Week for internet station StaticProgress and being the special guest on San Francisco's Pirate Cat Radio. Since April 2007 he has been producing regular podcasts for Phuture Frequency radio, PFRadio.

DJ Void mixes the light and dark ends of the Drum & Bass spectrum and produces rolling sets utilising productions by both old skool producers such as Digital, Spirit, and Total Science and the new breed such as Data, Jubei, and SPY.

Deaf Rave is about bringing love and peace with music and visuals for the Deaf community worldwide. Socially they want to party and have fun. It’s all about bringing your passionate self being. Deaf Culture is everywhere and still growing!  MC Geezer raps in sign language and DJ Inigo and DJ Ceri spin the discs.

Attitude is Everything run regular Club Attitude nights to showcase the talents of disabled and non-disabled musicians and DJ’s, and to promote best practice by demonstrating to the industry how to put on a fully accessible club night including cutting edge access facilities such as sign language interpretation of lyrics.  Previous Headliners include Mystery Jets, The Xcerts, Foals, thecocknbullkid, The Mules and Art Brut and we’ve had DJ sets from Alan McGee, Piney Gir, Alexa Chung, DJ Void and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

 

 

Last year’s Glastonbury Showcase was the first time that Club Attitude had appeared at a major festival in the UK.

 

 

Since 2005, Attitude is Everything have been working in partnership with the Glastonbury Festival team to improve the access facilities for Deaf and disabled people on-site, as well recruiting Deaf and disabled volunteers to be part of the Glastonbury stewarding team. We also run an information tent and recruit Deaf and disabled stewards for Festival Republic events including Latitude, Reading and Leeds Festivals and work with Channelfly to improve the access at The Great Escape.  

 

 

Our patrons are Robert Wyatt, Alan McGee, Blaine Harrison, Amadou and Mariam, Mat Fraser and Susan Hedges.

Continental Drifts have grown up in and around UK Festivals. We had our first stage at Glastonbury some 19 years ago, made of pallets and off the back off an old van.  Since then, our fortunes have somewhat changed to involve co-curating the vast Shangri La fields and stages at 24 other festivals. We have always concentrated on the new, underground and leftfield, so our relationship with the amazing Attitude is Everything is just that. They give us incredible new bands and we put them on.
